Safeguarding and Protecting Young PeopleShingi’s my coach tennis programme adopts this Safeguarding and Protecting Young People Policy and works in accordance with the following statement:

Introduction
Shingi’s my coach tennis programme is committed to creating and maintaining a safe and positive environment for all young people involved. It accepts its responsibility to help safeguard the welfare of all young people and protect them from poor practice, abuse and bullying. Every individual in the programme has a role and responsibility to help ensure the safety and welfare of young people.
Shingi’s my coach tennis programme as a provider of opportunities for young people accepts that we are required to fulfil our duty of care, which means that we must do everything that can be reasonably expected of us to help safeguard and protect young people from any reasonably foreseeable harm.

Definitions
Tennis Programme – all individuals, associations, members or volunteers involved in any capacity, including all participants and anyone working within the programme(in a paid or voluntary capacity, and whether as an employee or a self-employed or other work basis) including all coaches, instructors, leaders and officials.
Young people – anyone under the age of 18years.

Obligations under this policy
Everyone within Shingi’s my coach tennis programme must act in accordance with:
  • The general principle set out in this policy; and
  • The principles set out in the particular policies below
  • Persons recruited or employed to work with young people must undergo Appropriate checks
Affiliation to relevant National Governing Body, will evidence agreement of these obligations by the Programme members and/or committee.
Everyone within Shingi’s my coach tennis programme must also:
  • Abide by the code of conduct for coaches, volunteers, parents, spectators and players which specifies conduct in relation to the safeguarding of young people within the programme.

Code Of Conduct For Programme Coaching Team and Volunteers
Shingi’s my Coach Tennis Programme

The essence of good ethical conduct and practice is summarised below.
All members of the coaching team and volunteers must:
  • Consider the well-being and safety of participants before the commencement of all sessions
  • Develop an appropriate working relationship with participants, based on mutual trust and respect
  • Make sure all activities are appropriate to the age, ability and experience of those taking part
  • Promote the positive aspects of the activity (e.g. fair play, and general good sportsmanship)
  • Display consistently high standards of behaviour and appearance
  • Follow all guidelines laid down by the programme / organisation
  • Hold appropriate valid qualifications and insurance cover
  • Never exert undue influence over participants to obtain personal benefit or reward
  • Never condone inappropriate behaviour, rule violations, rough play or the use of PROHIBITED substances
  • Encourage participants to value the activity and not focus on the end result
  • Encourage and guide participants to accept responsibility for their own conduct and behaviour

CODE OF PRACTICE FOR ALL TENNIS PLAYERS TRAINING UNDER SHINGI’S MY COACH TENNIS PROGRAMME
Shingi’s my Coach Tennis Programme is fully committed to safeguarding and promoting the well-being of all its members. The Programme believes that it is important that members , coaches, parents, volunteers and guardians associated with the programme should, at all times, show respect and understanding for the safety and welfare of others. Members are therefore encouraged to be open at all times, and to share concerns or complaints they may have about any aspect of the programme with the Head Coach, or any member of the coaching team.
As a member of Shingi’s my Coach Tennis Programme, you are expected to abide by the following code of practice
  • All members must abide by the Programmes rules and respect decisions made by officials and team leaders.
  • All members must respect the rights, dignity and worth of all participants regardless of age, gender, ability, race, cultural background and/or religious beliefs and sexual identity.
  • Members should stick to agreed times for sessions, or inform the coaching team if they are to be late or not going to be available.
  • Members must wear suitable clothing for all sessions as agreed with the coaching team.
  • Members must pay any fees for sessions or events promptly.
  • All members are not permitted to indulge in alcohol at the premises or whilst representing the programme at any competitions or events.

Code Of Practice for Parents /Carers

Shingi’s my Coach Tennis Programme
  • Encourage your children to learn and abide by the rules of the tennis programme
  • Discourage inappropriate behaviour and arguments with the coaching team and volunteers
  • Never force children to engage in activities they clearly do not want to take part in
  • Set a good example to your children by recognising good conduct and applauding good performances of other participants
  • Never punish or belittle a child for losing or making mistakes
  • Publicly accept the coaching team’s good judgements and good intentions
  • Support your children’s involvement as it helps them enjoy their chosen activity
  • Use correct and appropriate language at all times
  • Encourage and guide young people to accept responsibility for their own conduct and behaviour.

GUIDELINES FOR DEALING WITH AN INCIDENT / ACCIDENT
ü Stay calm but act swiftly and observe the situation. Is there danger of further injuries?
ü Listen to what the injured ü Alert the first aider who should take appropriate actionü In the event of an injury requiring specialist treatment, call the emergency
ü Deal with the rest of the group and ensure that they are adequately supervise
ü Do not move someone with major injuries. Wait for the emergency medics.
ü Contact the injured person’s parent/carer/ guardian/ next of keen etc.
ü Complete an incident/accident report form and notify the Venue Manager or Booking Contact.

FIRST AID KIT DISTRIBUTION AND USE
A standard First Aid Kit will be distributed throughout the programme / organisation to all the coaching team members and is made available to all leaders at each session / event. The Programme First Aid Coordinator is responsible for re-calling all First Aid Kits and replenishing them on a regular basis.
